Adjuvant Definitions

Adjuvant: A companion product which is added to a pesticide in order to change the physical properties of the spray solution.

Buffering Agent: An Adjuvant that adjusts the pH of water.

bullet

Compatibility Agent: An adjuvant that allows a more uniform mixture of two or more pesticides.  Generally improves the stability and uniform application of a mixture.

Crop Oil Concentrate: A vegetable or petroleum based product that contains 80-85% oil and 15-20% surfactant.

Defoamer: An adjuvant that reduces foaming of spray solutions.

Drift Control: An adjuvant used to reduce spray drift.

Spreader: An adjuvant that increases the surface area liquid will cover.

Sticker: An adjuvant that increases the tendency with which materials attach to solid surfaces.

Surfactants: (Surface Active Agent) Products that are used to improve wetting, spreading, dispersing, etc. of the spray surface.

Non-ionic Surfactant: An adjuvant that does not have an electrical charge.

Vegetable Oil: Oil derived from seeds such as soybeans or cotton.

Wetting Agent: An adjuvant that lowers the surface tension between a liquid and a solid.

Penetrant: An adjuvant that enhances the ability of a pesticide to enter pores or penetrate a surface.

O.S.I.: Organosilicone adjuvant.  The active ingredient is usually 95% or higher.
